The Fits

Anna Rose Holmer
Film // January 2, 2017

The Fits is an uncomfortable combination, a closeness and kinship with Toni is intertwined by events that feel fantastical and abstract. The ability for the film to sit in this procurious spot, forcing audiences into the unknown and redefining conventional rules of explanation and conclusion, are not only exercises in unique storytelling, but a bold experiment for audiences to relate on a more emotional, and less pragmatic, level. It’s a film that trades in resolution for a more boundless curiosity, freeing the kids to just be kids. But perhaps more pertinent, for the viewers to be the kids too.
