In many ways, Moana encapsulates the power and might of Disney and similar capitalist creative entities. The production is a mass collaborative effort that brings together powerhouses, like Lin-Manuel Miranda for his music and Taika Waititi for his wits ( though much of the latter was scrapped), to create a collage of sound, color and technical proficiency. The result is a nearly perfect performance that sheds individuality and risk for a pleasing, but calculated, corporate-cultural exchange.
